The average wildfire danger across the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) has dropped to LOW. Some much needed precipitation was registered in almost all our gauges across the area. More precipitation was expected today to help further dampen the wildfire danger and impact some of the drier areas that were missed.
WILDFIRES IN THE CFA
There are currently no active wildfires in the CFA.
Since January 1, the CFA has responded to 50 wildfires which have burned 12.30 hectares.
Taking advantage of a brief lull in wildfire danger, CH08 and Bertie Beaver were a big hit in the parade for Bellecrest Days in the Crowsnest Pass.
PROVINCIAL WILDFIRE SUMMARY (as of 10:00 am June 17, 2024)
- Since January 1, there have been 435 wildfires recorded in the Forest Protection Area that have burned 27,986.5 hectares (ha).
- There are currently 12 active wildfires in the Forest Protection Area. They are all under control.
- There are currently five carryover wildfires from the 2023 season.

GET A PERMIT
All burning within the Forest Protection Area of Alberta requires a fire permit, with the exception of campfire. You can get your free fire permit by applying online or by contacting the Calgary Forest Area main office at (403) 297-8800 or you can request your permit using the online fire permit portal.
As we move into the summer season, please plan ahead. As the season gets busy, there may be delays for a forest officer to visit your site. Contact us or submit for your permit online as early as possible to ensure you have your permit for when you need it.
