The average wildfire danger across the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) has climbed to HIGH. Periodic rain showers and cooler temperatures have given way to stable and very warm conditions. The forecast is calling for extreme temperatures and no precipitation in the foreseeable future. A steady climb in wildfire danger is anticipated.
FIRE ADVISORY IN THE CFA
A FIRE ADVISORY is in effect for the Calgary Forest Area. Extreme temperatures and a lack of precipitation are driving up the wildfire danger.
Under this advisory active fire permits are suspended and no new permits will be issued.
Prohibited:
- Any burning other than a campfire
- Fireworks and exploding targets
Allowed:
- Wood campfires in both designated campgrounds and random camping areas
- Backyard fire pits
- Portable propane fire pits
- Gas or propane fueled stoves and barbecues
- Catalytic or infrared style heaters
This fire advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve or further escalation to a Fire Restriction is required. For a map of the impacted area, visit albertafirebans.ca.
WILDFIRES IN THE CFA
There are currently no active wildfires in the CFA.
Since January 1, the CFA has responded to 52 wildfires which have burned 12.51 hectares.
PROVINCIAL WILDFIRE SUMMARY (as of 10:00 am July 9, 2024)
- Since January 1, there have been 638 wildfires recorded in the Forest Protection Area that have burned 96,349.99 hectares (ha).
- There are currently 57 active wildfires in the Forest Protection Area. Of these wildfires, 13 are classified as out of control, 20 are being held and 24 are under control.
- There are currently 4 carryover wildfires from the 2023 season.
