Calgary Forest Area Wildfire Update - July 15, 2022

Posted on Fri, Jul 15, 2022

gfx-hsb-wildfiredangerupdate-high.jpgThe wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) remains HIGH. The past several days of very high temperatures and low relative humidity have continued to dry both grasses and larger forest fuels.  There is a possibility of some relief in the form of thundershowers and a potential short term downtrend in the weather forecast for early next week. If these precipitation events materialize and are significantly widespread, it should help to moderate the wildfire danger. If not, we can expect the wildfire danger to continue to rise, risking unpredictable and volatile wildfire behaviour.

HUMAN CAUSED WILDFIRES

Please continue to remain vigilant to avoid being the cause of any new wildfire starts.  If you have a fire permit, please be sure to follow all the conditions on that permit and keep all necessary tools and water close at hand.

Please be sure to fully extinguish your campfire by soaking it, stirring it and soaking again. And remember that fireworks and exploding targets are PROHIBITED in the Forest Protection Area without the express written permission from a Forest Officer. These items can cause wildfires and our crews have already responded to several this year. If you use these devices without permission, it could land you a $600 written violation and if you cause a wildfire you could be held responsible for the costs of extinguishing that wildfire.

WILDFIRE DASHBOARD

The wildfire dashboard provides up-to-date wildfire information at the click of a button. This interactive tool displays important statistics on the number of active wildfires in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta, sizes, locations, suspected causes and more.

The dashboard builds on the former wildfire status map by displaying the most frequently accessed information in one convenient location.
