The average wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) is now MODERATE. The storm cells moving through have give more precipitation coverage across the forest area helping to decrease the wildfire danger in the short term.

LIGHTNING

With the unsettled weather rolling through, we have seen substantial lightning activity. Although the majority of the wildfires in the CFA are human-caused, lightning-caused wildfires remain a major concern at this time of year. We have seen some strikes cause wildfires recently. Our crews responded quickly and were able to bring them under control and extinguish them. It is important to note that these conditions, particularly in the south, are allowing lightning strikes to ignite wildfires and they are able to sustain and grow. Please report any wildfires you see to 310-FIRE.

FIRE PERMITS

You can request your fire permit online or by phone.  Fire permits are required for any burning, except campfires, in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Fire permits help us to track what is burning on the landscape. If you're burning without a fire permit or outside fire permit conditions, your fire is considered a wildfire.

To request a fire permit online, visit the portal. You will need a MyAlberta Digital ID to access the portal. Please note that you can still request your permit from the Calgary Forest Area main office by calling 403-297-8800.
