The wildfire danger across the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) is now MODERATE. The overall wildfire danger remains low, however above seasonal temperatures and strong winds have accelerated the snow melt. Exposed areas of dead grass are of particular concern and can carry fast moving wildfires.

ACTIVE WILDFIRE IN THE CFA

Wildland firefighters are responding to a wildfire located west of Ghost Lake, north of highway 1A. The wildfire is currently classified as OUT OF CONTROL. Personnel from the CFA are on scene with a helicopter, as well as multiple municipal partner agencies. CWF-008 is estimated at 4 hectares and the cause remains under investigation.

There is no immediate threat to any communities or infrastructure at this time and crews are making excellent progress.

Smoke may be impacting highway 1A, and temporary closures may be in place. Please check Alberta 511 for the latest information.

For municipal updates, please see the Municipal District of Bighorn website.
