CURRENT CONDITIONS IN THE CALGARY FOREST AREA
The average wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) remains VERY HIGH to EXTREME. The southern portions of the CFA remain of particular concern. There was also substantial lighting across the area; crews will be patrolling for holdover wildfires from these lightning strikes.
The FIRE BAN remains effect for the southern portions of the CFA. Here is a detailed map of the boundaries and further info can be found on albertafirebans.ca. Under this FIRE BAN:
- Existing fire permits are suspended
- All outdoor fires presently burning under permit must be extinguished, unless approved to continue by a Forest Officer
Prohibited:
- Wood campfires on public land -this includes all random camping areas on crown land.
- Wood campfires in designated campgrounds
- Wood campfires and backyard fire pits on private land
- Charcoal briquette barbeques
- Fireworks
- Exploding targets
Allowed:
- Propane or natural gas fueled appliances
- Indoor wood fires
- Open flame oil devices

Peace Officers have begun to issue written warnings and written violations ($600) for non-compliance within the FIRE BAN area. Patrols will continue for the duration of the FIRE BAN.
FIRE RESTRICTION LIFTED
Due to substantial precipitation, as of 2:00 P.M on August 23, the Fire Restriction that was in effect for the northern portions of the CFA has been lifted. The FIRE BAN remains in effect in southern portions of the CFA until further notice.
WILDFIRES IN THE CFA
There are currently no active wildfires in the CFA.
Since January 1, the CFA has responded to 138 wildfires which burned a total of 13.51 hectares.
SMOKE CONCERNS
Several municipalities across southern Alberta are being impacted intermittently by smoke and poor air quality. Please be aware that this smoke is not being produced by any active wildfires in Alberta. FireSmoke.ca is a service that can produce forecasts of hourly ground-level concentrations of smoke from wildfires.

The wildfire dashboard provides up-to-date wildfire information at the click of a button. This interactive tool displays important statistics on the number of active wildfires in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta, sizes, locations, suspected causes and more.
The dashboard builds on the former wildfire status map by displaying the most frequently accessed information in one convenient location.
