The average wildfire danger across the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) remains HIGH. While some sections in the northern portions of the forest area did receive precipitation from passing thundershowers over the long weekend, it was not widespread across the area. The southern portions of the forest area received little to no precipitation and combined with the extreme temperatures over the past week, the wildfire danger continues to climb.

Fire Advisory 2

FIRE ADVISORY

The FIRE ADVISORY in the Calgary Forest Area remains in effect.  Under this FIRE ADVISORY:

No new fire permits will be issued. Existing permits are still valid until the expiry date and all conditions must be followed.

During this FIRE ADVISORY the following are still allowed:

  • Safe wood campfires in designated campgrounds, backyard fire pits and in random camping areas on public land
  • Portable propane fire pits
  • Gas or propane fueled stoves and barbecues
  • Catalytic or infrared-style heaters
  • Charcoal briquettes

Safe wood campfires must be within a metal, brick or rock fire ring. They are required to:

a) be on rock, gravel, sand or other non-combustible surface that extends at least one metre around the fire

b) have a responsible person in attendance to keep the fire under control at all time and extinguish before leaving

c) have on hand enough water to fully extinguish the fire

Fireworks and exploding targets are prohibited.

The FIRE ADVISORY will remain in effect until conditions improve or there is a need for further escalation. Campfires are currently allowed, but may be restricted in the coming weeks.
