WILDFIRE SEASON OFFICIALLY OVER
As of November 1, the 2023 wildfire season is officially over and fire permits are no longer required in the Calgary Forest Area. If you plan on conducting burning over the winter months, you are still responsible for the safe execution, maintenance and extinguishment of your burning projects. Please monitor weather conditions closely and ensure you have sufficient firefighting equipment on hand.
If you have plans for any large burning projects or heavy debris burning, please notify the Calgary Forest Area office at (403) 297-8822.
The 2023 wildfire season saw generally low activity in the Calgary Forest Area. Permanent, seasonal and contract staff spend significant time supporting wildfire efforts in the central and northern portions of the province.
CAMPFIRES IN THE FALL
Throughout the fall, the CFA tends to see abandoned campfires remain a leading cause of wildfires. With an abundance of dry fuel, it is extremely important to never leave a campfire unattended and to ensure it is completely extinguished before you retire for the night or leave your day site or campsite. Abandoned campfires remain a major concern for us at this time of year.
ALBERTA WILDFIRE IS HIRING

HAVE A SAFE WINTER
Updates will only be posted and distributed over the winter months if warranted. The 2024 wildfire season will begin March 1, 2024 and you can expect updates to resume then.
