WINTER BURNING
During the period of November 1, 2022 through February 28, 2023 fire permits are not required to burn within the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Although permits are not required, you are still responsible for any fires you ignite. Please ensure you have adequate resources on hand to manage the size of your burn. Check the site over the winter months for any signs of a holdover fire.
SMOKE SAFETY
Before you burn, check the weather forecast. You never want to burn when strong winds are expected. In some weather conditions, smoke can become trapped close to the ground causing reduced local visibility and can impact those with smoke related health concerns. Environment Canada has a trial ventilation index forecast available which can be used as an additional decision making tool.
2023 WILDFIRE SEASON
Updates will only be posted and distributed over the winter months if warranted. The 2023 wildfire season will begin March 1, 2023 and you can expect regular updates to resume then.
