CURRENT CONDITIONS IN THE CALGARY FOREST AREA

With the widespread precipitation over the weekend, the average wildfire danger rating in the Calgary Forest Area has dropped to MODERATE. Areas that received the bulk of the rain are now LOW.

FIRE ADVISORY LIFTED

The fire advisory that was in place for the past several weeks has been lifted. This means that the CFA is now issuing permits. Please be advised that the last official day of the 2021 wildfire season is October 31. Up to and including that day, you must obtain a fire permit for any burning (with the exception of campfires) that you plan on conducting.  Fire permits are free and can be obtained by calling (403) 297-8800.

PRESCRIBED FIRE PROJECT

This week, wildland firefighters will be wrapping up the prescribed fire project located adjacent to Highway 1 on Stoney Nakoda and Canadian Pacific lands. Approximately 86 hectares of predominantly grass were burned over the past few weeks of operations. If appropriate conditions present over the winter months, additional operations may resume.

WILDFIRES IN THE CFA

There are currently no active wildfire in the CFA.

CAMPFIRES IN THE FALL

Throughout the fall, the CFA tends to see abandoned campfires remain a leading cause of wildfires and this has certainly been the case again this year.  With an abundance of dry fuel, it is extremely important to never leave a campfire unattended and to ensure it is completely extinguished before you retire for the night or leave your day site or campsite.  Abandoned campfires are a major concern for us at this time of year and we have found several in the past week needing proper extinguishing.
