CURRENT CONDITIONS IN THE CALGARY FOREST AREA

The average wildfire danger rating over the Calgary Forest Area is HIGH, with several pockets of VERY HIGH. The wildfire danger at this time of year is very dependent on precipitation.  Unless we receive regular precipitation every several days, the wildfire danger will remain elevated until snow falls.

fire advisory wide

The FIRE ADVISORY remains in effect in the Calgary Forest Area.  Under this FIRE ADVISORY all fire permits are suspended and no new permits will be issued until conditions improve.

SMOKE MAY BE VISIBLE FROM HIGHWAY 1 and 1A

Wildland firefighters remain active with prescribed fire operations adjacent to Highway 1 on Stoney Nakoda and Canadian Pacific lands. Crews have successfully burned approximately 55 hectares of predominantly grass. While the weather holds, they will be active on this project.

WILDFIRES IN THE CFA

There are currently two active wildfire in the CFA.  CWF-159 is BEING HELD at 7.5 hectares. CWF-160 is BEING HELD at 0.01 hectares. Both wildfires remain under investigation.

CAMPFIRES IN THE FALL

Throughout the fall, the CFA tends to see abandoned campfires remain a leading cause of wildfires.  With an abundance of dry fuel, it is extremely important to never leave a campfire unattended and to ensure it is completely extinguished before you retire for the night or leave your day site or campsite.  Major wildfires have been caused by abandoned or improperly extinguished campfires in the CFA in the fall months.
