For today, the wildfire hazard has climbed to MODERATE for the majority of communities in the Slave Lake Forest Area. Areas around High Prairie, Wabasca and Red Earth Creek are very dry and the wildfire hazard is HIGH.

Although we did receive some rain recently, the warm weather has dried up the fine fuels like grass, leaves and twigs. A wildfire will ignite easily and spread quickly under windy conditions. Use caution when working or recreating in the forest and report wildfires immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473).

The wildfire hazard will continue to climb as the forecast is calling for very warm temperatures this week. To obtain up-to-date information on the wildfire situation across Alberta download the Alberta Wildfire App, like Alberta Wildfire Info on facebook or visit www.wildfire.alberta.ca.

High Alert

With recent and expected lightning activity, firefighters with helicopters and airtankers are stationed throughout the area ready to fight any new wildfires that may start. We also have our personnel in the fire towers on high alert constantly watching for smoke.

Weather Forecast

For Tuesday, the forecast is calling for temperatures in the mid to low twenty degree Celsius range, light winds from the west and a good chance of isolated thundershowers with lightning in the afternoon.

Your off-highway vehicle can start a wildfire. Check your off-highway vehicle frequently for any smoldering debris. Grass, muskeg, moss or other debris can drop to the ground as you're riding and spark a wildfire. This video shows you how to ride debris free!
