Weather Forecast
The unstable air mass will still be affecting our area over the next few days with continued widespread thunderstorms for Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will remain in the low twenties with lower temperatures anticipated early next week.
The rain and humidity have caused relief to the fire danger in the Slave Lake Forest Area, but we are still watching for lightning fires as the thunderstorms continue.
Wildfire Situation for the Slave Lake Forest Area
Lightning sparked 5 new wildfires in the Slave Lake Forest Area this afternoon/evening. One is already considered as being held, four remain as out of control.
These photos are of fire SWF167 it is a lightning caused wildfire, it was quickly actioned by air tankers that used retardant and two firetack crews working to contain the wildfire.
Firefighters and helicopters continue to fight the wildfire located east of Wood Buffalo Lake.The wildfire did not spread again today there are 45 firefighters and four helicopters working to contain this wildfire.
When recreating or working in the forest use caution and report wildfires immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473).

Since April 1st there have been 171 wildfires in the Slave Lake Forest Area and the total area burned is just over 2214 hectares.

Fire Permits - Fire permits are required for any type of burning in the Forest Protection Area. Campfires do not require a fire permit.
Fire permits are free and can be obtained by calling your local Alberta Agriculture and Forestry office.
