Wildfire Hazard
Warm weather and strong gusty winds have caused the wildfire hazard to climb to HIGH for the Slave Lake Forest Area. Conditions in the forest are dry and under these windy conditions a wildfire will spread very quickly. Postpone any burning and report wildfires immediately by calling 310-FIRE. Wildfire situation in the Slave Lake Forest Area
There have been no new wildfires in the past 24 hours.
SWF 179 (Slave Lake Wildfire number 179) located south of Blanchet Lake is under control and firefighters are working to extinguish this 8 hectare wildfire.
SWF 181 (Slave Lake Wildfire number 181) located south of highway 686 on the way to Peerless Lake has been extinguished.
Since April 1st there have been 185 wildfires in the Slave Lake Forest Area and the total area burned is just over 2251 hectares.

Fire permits are free and can be obtained by calling your local Alberta Agriculture and Forestry office.

Campfires do not require a fire permit.
Incendiary shooting targets have been banned across the province.These targets explode when shot with a firearm and have been known to cause wildfires.
To prevent wildfires when using farm equipment ensure your machine is clear of flammable crop residue, check for sparks frequently and carry firefighting equipment on board.
