Edson Forest Area Wildfire Update - June 28, 2018, 5:00 p.m.

WILDFIRE SITUATION | June 28, 2018, at 5:00 p.m.

EWF-077 - Classified as out of control at approximately 1,200 ha in size. 

Since the last update, with continued firefighting efforts, calmer winds and higher humidities there has been no significant growth. No communities are at risk at this time.

60 firefighters, and 8 pieces of heavy equipment continue to extend and reinforce the fire guard on the north side, while 6 helicopters and multiple airtankers continue to focus on the southwest corner of the wildfire, which remains the most active. 

The wildfire remains:

  • 15 km south east of Hinton
  • 28 km north west of Robb
  • 60 km west/south west of Edson
  • 6 km from McLeod Campground (Km 35 Robb Road)

Alberta Wildfire is working closely with Yellowhead CountyTown of HintonTown of EdsonAlberta Parks, industry partners, and the RCMP.

Road Closures: information can be found at Alberta Transportation, or on the Alberta 511 App.

In addition to 511 information, the following roads and areas are RESTRICTED, meaning barricades are in place and access is given to essential industry personnell only:

  • Robb road between Hinton and Robb is CLOSED.
  • Hargwen Road from both Hwy 16 and the Robb road.
  • Pembina River road junction and Mercoal Mainline.

Campground Closures: all campground closures,  are listed on Alberta Parks. In addition, all random camping along the Robb and Gregg River roads.

Information Station: located at Green Square in Hinton, Alberta, from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

WILDFIRE DANGER

Dry, windy conditions are keeping the wildfire danger at very high for the Edson Forest Area. Cooler temperatures and light winds at 10-15 km/h are forecast for tomorrow, rain is not expected. Please do your part to prevent wildfires.
