High Wildfire Danger Continues - Whitecourt Forest Area

WILDFIRE DANGER

Dry conditions continue today; when combined with the large areas of dead, dry grass across the Whitecourt Forest Area, a high wildfire danger is the result. Under these conditions, a wildfire can start easily, and spread quickly. Wildfires fed by dry grass are erratic in the way they grow, making them particularly hard to control.

When out working or recreating in forested areas, please take the necessary precautions to prevent a wildfire.

Please consider postponing all non-essential burning until conditions improve. If you have a fire permit, please follow the conditions on the permit.

FIRE PERMITS ARE REQUIRED

Until October 31, free fire permits are required for any burning (except campfires) within the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Permits help firefighters know where planned burning is taking place, leaving them ready to respond to new wildfires.

Campfires and off-highway vehicles can start wildfires, follow these tips to reduce the risk:
