INDUSTRY

Alberta Wildfire has been conducting cross training with oil and gas and forest industries during the wildfire season. Wildfire staff have assisted companies with wildfire training, exercises, and auditing to ensure their personnel are more prepared in the event of a wildfire.

Staff from the Whitecourt Forest Area have been completing audits with these companies to ensure that the requirements of the Alberta Forest and Prairie Protection Act are being met.

As a reminder, if you’re operating within the Forest Protection Area of Alberta, you’re required to have an Industrial Wildfire Control Plan to assist Alberta Wildfire with their operations.

CAMPIRE SAFETY

SOAK IT, STIR IT, AND SOAK IT AGAIN

  • Let the fire burn down before you plan on putting it out. Spread the embers within the fire pit, then add water or loose dirt, and stir.

  • Expose any material still burning. Add more water and stir again until you can no longer see smoke or steam. Do not bury your fire as the embers may continue to smoulder and can re-emerge as a wildfire.

  • Repeat until your campfire is cool to the touch.

  • If your fire is out, you should not be able to feel any heat from the ashes.
