Prescribed fire operations in the Blackstone and Wapiabi area this weekend saw another 102 hectares burned for a total of 830 hectares this season. Further ignition will continue pending weather conditions

The area notification remains in effect for the area. Users of the area must contact 403.845.8266 before entering the general area. Fire may be burning anywhere within the containment area indicated on the map.

The objective is to improve ungulate habitat by reducing shrub encroachment and reinvigorating grass growth as well as creating a landscape level fire break. We will proceed when and where we can ensure a safe operation that will meet the overall objectives of the prescribed fire.
