Predicted Fire Danger map for October 19, 2022
DRY CONDITIONS
Due to current and predicted conditions we're urging everyone in the forested areas to be extremely cautious at this time. Over the course of the next two days we will see high winds of 20-30 km/h with gusts up to 50 km/h. If you're burning or having a campfire ensure you have sufficient water and please fully extinguish your campfire by soaking it, stirring it and soaking it again.
COOKING & WARMING FIRES
Cooking and warming fires are common this time of year and firefighters often find unattended or abandoned fires each year. If you're having a warming fire during your hunt, please be familiar with building it and the proper extinguishment. Soak it, stir it and soak it again!
SMOKE
The smoke that is visible in the Peace River Forest Area is being caused by wildfires in the High Level Forest Area and the United States. Please visit firesmoke.ca to see a forecasted image of where the smoke is coming from.
FIRE PERMITS
Fire permits are required for all burning in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta, with the exception of campfires. They are issued by Alberta Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Economic Development (AFRED) to track burning across the province. This helps us to determine if smoke is a wildfire or permitted burning.
Each permit is unique and outlines the restrictions and conditions for your burn including location, wind speed, time and date of burn and any suppression tools required. Permits for burning are free and can be obtained at any AFRED office. Local offices can restrict issues permitting in cases of extreme wildfire hazard.
