The wildfire danger in the Peace River Forest Area is now VERY HIGH.
The fire hazard is expected to increase with forecasted hot and dry weather conditions. Please monitor this update for any changes in the wildfire danger level.
WILDFIRE UPDATE
Since March 1, there have been 23 wildfires in the Peace River Forest Area burning a total of 8.55 hectares. Five of these wildfires has been turned over to the responsible party and 18 have been extinguished.
PROVINCIAL WILDFIRE UPDATE
There are currently 18 wildfires in the Forest Protection Area (FPA) of Alberta. One of these wildfires is out of control, one is being held, eight are under control and eight have been turned over to the responsible party.
Since March 1st, there have been 429 wildfires in the FPA, burning a total of 1,025 ha.

FIRE PERMIT
During wildfire season, you are required to have a fire permit if you plan on doing any burning in the Forest Protection Area, other than a campfire.
We urge everyone to use caution when working and recreating outdoors. Never leave your campfire unattended. Before leaving, be sure to soak your campfire, stir it and soak it again.
Please contact the local forestry office at 780-624-6190 to obtain your free fire permit.
