PEACE RIVER FOREST AREA / WILDFIRE SITUATION  

There are currently seven fires classified as UNDER CONTROL in the Peace River Forest Area. Since January 1, there have been 106 wildfires in the Peace River Forest Area, which have burned approximately 15,903 hectares.

Of the 106 wildfires, 45 were caused by humans, 59 were caused by lightning, and 2 are under investigation.

PROVINCIAL WILDFIRE SITUATION

Fire danger is mainly high with patches of very high to extreme in the northeast corner of the province and around High Level. Fire danger is also high in the agricultural zone and in the central and southern foothills. Fire danger is high to extreme in southern Alberta and low to moderate throughout the rest of the province.

Since January 1, there have been 1180 wildfires recorded in the Forest Protection Area that have burned 708,541 ha. Last year, on this date, there were 1051 wildfires that had burned 2,216,874 ha across the province.

PEACE RIVER FORESTRY IN THE COMMUNITY 

Forestry Staff

Peace River Wildfire Helitack crew PH04 attended Berwyn Mania on August 24th, 2024. The event was held by the Village of Berwyn in celebration of the completion of the main street paving project. The Berwyn Fire Department, Alberta Wildfire, and the Village of Berwyn hosted a free Firesmart focused BBQ, sponsored by TC Energy.

Peace River Forestry and Parks staff attended the annual Peace River Agricultural Society Mud Bog and Fair on September 7th, 2024. Recreation Engagement Officer Sean Clarkson, Wildfire Information Officer Tannis McNabb, and Sergeant Conservation Officer Tanner Taje engaged with local land owners and users on everything from wildfire prevention to hunting regulations and off-highway vehicle safety.
