The wildfire danger is now LOW. Recent rain and cool temperatures have given some relief to the dry conditions we have seen over the past month.

Wildfire Situation

At this time, there are eight active wildfires in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. Of these, one is being held (BH) and Seven are Under Control (UC).

Since March 1, 2021 there have been 81 wildfires burning nearly 125 hectares in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. For more information on the current wildfire situation across the province of Alberta visit wildfirestatus.alberta.ca

Fire permits

Fire permits are one of the many prevention tools Alberta Wildfire uses to keep track of burning being done throughout the province. This ensures that when smoke is reported, we can look into our system and check whether this is a wildfire or a permitted burn being done. If you live within the Forest Protection Area (FPA), please contact your local Forestry office.  Anyone living outside the FPA can contact their municipality for information about local fire permit requirements. Currently, requests for burning of heavy fuels will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
