Alberta Agriculture and Forestry along with the Sturgeon Lake Fire Department is currently conducting a hazard reduction burn in the community of Sturgeon Lake First Nation. Firefighters are making good progress with 10 hectares complete. Burning will continue until weather permits or the burn is complete. Spring hazard reduction burning will lessen the risk of man-caused fires and help protect homes and community infrastructure from future wildfires. Removing fine fuel loading along ditches, open fields, ATV trails and other recreation areas is another step in making this community Firesmart.
