The wildfire danger is VERY HIGH to EXTREME in the Grande Prairie Forest Area.
With recent and expected lightning new wildfires may occur. Fire lookouts are on high alert watching for smoke. Firefighters and aircraft are ready to respond to any new wildfire starts.

GRANDE PRAIRIE FOREST AREA | WILDFIRE SITUATION | JULY 29, 2022 AT  245 PM

At this time, GWF 032 located approximately 61 kilometers west of Fox Creek remains classified as Being Held (BH) at 79 hectares. Heavy equipment have made 100% fire guard around the wildfire's perimeter. There are currently, 36 firefighters with three helicopters supporting with bucketing operations.

Wildfire smoke from Northern Alberta and British Columbia may drift into the Grande Prairie Forest Area in the coming days as the wind shifts from the North. Fire Advisory banner

A fire advisory is issued for the Grande Prairie Forest Area effective Monday, July 18, 2022 due to current and forecasted dry and windy weather conditions. 
 
Under this advisory:
• Current fire permits remain valid;
• New fire permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis.
 
Prohibited:
• Any burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire, is prohibited.
 
Allowed:
• Safe wood campfires *
• Backyard fire pits
• Portable propane fire pits
• Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
• Catalytic or infrared-style heaters
 
*Safe wood campfires - should be within a metal, brick, or rock fire ring.
They are required to: 
• Be on rock, gravel, sand, or another non-combustible surface that extends at least one metre around the fire; 
• Have a responsible person in attendance to keep fire under control at all times and extinguish before leaving;
• Have on hand enough water on site to extinguish the fire. Safe wood campfires on private lands include private land campgrounds and private land recreation areas; and
• Municipalities, Parks and protected areas may have additional fire safety requirements.
 
Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished.

Fire Permits

During wildfire season, you are required to have a fire permit if you plan on burning in the Forest Protection Area (FPA), with the exception of a campfire.  Anyone living outside the FPA can contact their municipality for information about local fire permit requirements.
Albertans living or working in the Forest Protection Area of the province can request a free fire permit by contacting your local forestry office or using the new, convenient online Fire Permit Portal.
