GRANDE PRAIRIE FOREST AREA | WILDFIRE SITUATION | August 8, 2022 AT 430 PM

There is one active wildfire listed as under control (UC) in the Grande Prairie Forest Area.  Since March 1, 2022 there have been 35 wildfires burning nearly 95 hectares in the Grande Prairie Forest Area.

Last year, 67 per cent of our wildfires were human-caused and 100 per cent preventable. When operating equipment, keep watch of your surroundings and ensure you have sufficient firefighting equipment and water available. Equipment fires or work related sparks, friction and hot exhaust can cause small amounts of dry fuels to ignite into a wildfire.

2022 OHV Can cause wildfires Dirt Bike

Recent dry and windy conditions have increased the potential for Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) fires to occur. The hot areas on your OHV can collect grass and other debris and start a wildfire. Clean your ride regularly throughout the day and carry a collapsible bucket and shovel with you in the event of a starting a wildfire. Please check Alberta Fire Bans for the most up to date information on advisories, restrictions and bans in your area.

Fire Permits

During wildfire season, you are required to have a fire permit if you plan on burning in the Forest Protection Area (FPA), with the exception of a campfire.  Anyone living outside the FPA can contact their municipality for information about local fire permit requirements.
Albertans living or working in the Forest Protection Area of the province can request a free fire permit by contacting your local forestry office or using the new, convenient online Fire Permit Portal.
