The wildfire danger is HIGH for the Grande Prairie Forest Area. A heat warning is in effect with possible crossover conditions: The point at which the relative humidity is less than, or equal to, the ambient air temperature. Crossover is used as an indicator of extreme burning conditions. Fire danger is expected to increase in the coming days.
Wildfire Situation
Grande Prairie Forest Area currently has listed two active wildfires. GWF 32 and GWF 40 are both listed as under control (UC) crews continue to extinguish hotspots.
Since March 1, 2022 there have been 44 wildfires burning nearly 96 hectares in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. To view wildfires on a map, download the AB Wildfire App or visit Wildfire Status | AAF - Agriculture and Forestry (alberta.ca).

Fire Permits
During wildfire season, you are required to have a fire permit if you plan on burning in the Forest Protection Area (FPA), with the exception of a campfire. Anyone living outside the FPA can contact their municipality for information about local fire permit requirements.
Albertans living or working in the Forest Protection Area of the province can request a free fire permit by contacting your local forestry office or using the new, convenient online Fire Permit Portal.
