FIRE PERMITS

You need a permit for any fires other than a campfire. If you burn without a permit, it's likely the smoke will be spotted, reported, and we could needlessly send crews to respond! Help us know where and when to expect smoke in the forest by getting a wildfire permit.

To request your free fire permit, call the Fort McMurray Fire Center at 780-473-7125. Before you burn, make sure you check the conditions of your fire permit and always follow safe burning practices. Winds can shift without warning so remember to be mindful of the weather prior to lighting a fire. Learn more about burning conditions here.

Do your part to prevent wildfires this spring.

Off-highway vehicles can start wildfires - check frequently to ensure hotspots are free of debris and make sure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.

Never leave your campfire unattended. Remember to fully extinguish your campfire by soaking it, stirring it, then soaking it again. Your campfire is completely out when it is cool to the touch.
