Smoke in the Fort McMurray Area is drifting in from fires in the Slave Lake and High Level Areas. There are currently no fires causing a threat near Fort McMurray. To find out where the smoke is coming from visit www.firesmoke.ca.
Warmer temperatures and dry conditions in the Fort McMurray Forest Area keep the fire danger rating at EXTREME for the entire forest area. Warm temperatures and low humidity levels will cause fire to spread easily and quickly.
Yesterday 4 tickets were handed out to individuals operating an OHV in the Fort McMurray Forest Area in which there is currently an OHV Restriction and Fire Ban.
1 ticket was handed out to a home owner for failing to extinguish open outdoor fire in an area affected by a fire control order.
The fine for operating an OHV where prohibited is $575.00.
The fine for failing to extinguish an open outdoor fire in a fire ban area is $287.00
We would also like to remind Commercial and Industrial OHV Users about Section 11(4) of the Forest And Prairie (Ministerial) Regulation:
“…vehicles used for travelling to and from the operation are equipped with a shovel, an axe and a container able to hold at least 5 litres of Water.”
We ask the public to cooperate with the Fire Ban and OHV Restriction – we will be conducting patrols to ensure compliance.

This fire ban will ensure the safety of Albertans and their communities as well as protecting our forests by reducing that risk.” Devin Dreeshen, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry
