Wildfire season is now in effect and you must obtain your free permit if you plan on burning within the Forest Protection Area.
Please be advised that industry is conducting significant pipeline burning projects along Highway 16 and you may see smoke or flame. If you suspect it to be a wildfire and not a burning project, we ask that you report it to 310-FIRE (3473).
We ask that you continue to use caution at all times when working and recreating in the outdoors and keep watch of your surroundings. Exposed cured dry grass can ignite easily and burn quickly.
If you plan on burning within the Forest Protection Area, with the exception of a cooking or heating fire, please contact your local Forestry Office to request a fire permit. You can click here for a listing of Forestry Offices near you.

Since January 1, 2020, there has been 1 wildfire in the Edson Forest Area which burnt approximately 0.01 ha.

Since our last report on March 9, 2020 at 10 a.m., there have been no new wildfires recorded in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta.
There are currently 6 wildfires in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. 4 of these wildfires started during the 2019 wildfire season. 5 of these wildfires are under control and continue to be monitored. 1 has been turned over to the responsible parties.
