We are urging everyone to use extreme caution when working or recreating outdoors. Any spark, hot exhaust or friction will catch easily and burn quickly which could start a wildfire.

During wildfire season, you are required to obtain a fire permit if you plan on burning in the Forest Protection Area, with the exception of a campfire. At this time, no new permits will be issued until dry fuel and weather conditions improve.

There have been several wildfires caused by burning without a permit in our area. If you are found burning without a fire permit, you may be fined $600 or more.

If you see smoke or flame and suspect it's a wildfire, call 310-FIRE.

Update - Wildfire EWF028 was detected on April 16th and continues to burn out of control approximately 22 km north of Edson. The wildfire is located approximately 4 km south of Emerson Creek Rd and 4 km west of the Amaco Road. There is no threat to any community at this time.

The estimated size of the fire is now 24.41 ha and is burning in mixed wood forest which is producing substantial smoke that residents may see from Edson and surrounding area.

There are currently 17 firefighters at the incident with three helicopters, three dozers, two water trucks and two wildland firefighting engines working to extinguish the fire.

Tomorrow morning, firefighters, heavy equipment and helicopters will resume operations.

The cause of the wildfire is under investigation.
