The wildfire danger across the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) is now LOW. More seasonal temperatures and widespread snowfall has helped to drop the wildfire danger. Cold temperatures combined with scattered snowfall are expected to persist in the short term.
WILDFIRES IN THE CFA
Since January 1, 2025, the Calgary Forest Area has responded to seven wildfires. There have been no new wildfires reported since our last update.
Alberta wildland firefighters, including our very own from the CFA, have now all returned home after assisting on wildfires burning in California.
2025 WILDFIRE SEASON
The 2025 wildfire season will begin in a few short weeks. Fire permits will once again be required for any burning (except for a campfire) in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Alberta Wildfire has been busy preparing for the upcoming season, we will have more updates on available resources and plans for the season as we get closer to spring.
RIBBON CREEK PRESCRIBED FIRE PROJECT
Work is continuing on the Ribbon Creek Prescribed Fire project. This is a continuation of efforts undertaken in 2023 and 2024. At this time, crews are SOLELY working on establishing and strengthening containment lines for future ignition of the main unit. The larger project will not be initiated until all guard lines and preparation work has been completed and when overall conditions are conducive to a successful operation. A local closure is currently in place for safety reasons as crews have been cutting trees, piling debris and burning piles.
