Whitecourt Area Update

Spring Snow Dampens Wildfire Hazard - May 6

Posted on Wed, May 06, 2015

GFX-HSB-WildfireDangerUpdate-LowThe Wildfire hazard for the Whitecourt Wildfire Management Area (WWMA) has been reduced to LOW. Snow and rain are expected to continue for the next few days with warm temperatures returning over the weekend. This moisture has decreased the risk of dry grass and branches catching fire but until all the grass and leaves turn green, there is a higher risk of wildfire. Use caution when working and recreating in the forest this long weekend.

FIRE PERMITS

Remember that a fire permit is required for all fires, except campfires, in the Forest Protection Area. If you already have a fire permit check your permit conditions before you burn; you are not to burn when winds exceed 15 kilometers per hour.

New fire permits will be issued depending on type of material being burnt and site conditions. To get your free fire permit call 780-778-7272.

Many areas across the province have fire advisories in place, to learn more: www.Albertafirebans.ca.

Unless conditions change, you can expect your next wildfire update May 15th.
