Dry, warm conditions in the Whitecourt Wildfire Management Area (WWMA) keep the wildfire hazard at EXTREME.

Thunderstorms are expected this afternoon, with an increased risk of lightning started wildfires. Please report wildfires by calling 310-FIRE (3473)

In these conditions, wildfires can start easily, spread rapidly and increase quickly in intensity; making it difficult for firefighters to safely work on a wildfire. Please do your part and help us prevent wildfires.

How Can You Help?

If you are using an Off-highway Vehicle during your day, periodically stop and check your vehicle for the build up of grass, branches or debris. This material can catch fire and drop from your vehicle as you drive; acting like a drip-torch it can start a wildfire. Learn more here.

Never leave your campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again to properly extinguish it.

SMOKE IN THE AIR

Smoke from wildfires burning across western Canada may drift across the province. Alberta Health Services issued a precautionary air quality advisory on July 3. Residents with health concerns should contact Alberta Health Link by calling 8-1-1. Smoke forecasts are available here.

You can learn more about Alberta's Air Quality Health Index or call 1-877-247-7333.
