FAQ

Why is there a ban? High temperatures and dry conditions have produced extreme hazard conditions. Fire bans work to decrease the number of human-caused wildfires. This allows firefighters to focus on existing or new wildfires.

What are we doing about the situation? At the current time firefighters, aircraft, and equipment are pre-positioned across the province, and within the Whitecourt Wildfire Management area. We are ready to fight new wildfires.

What can you do to help? Although fire bans are effective in reducing human-caused wildfires, wildfires may also be started by Off-highway Vehicles.  Remember to clean your Off-Highway Vehicle, and to check it periodically for the buildup of branches, grass, and debris.

Remember: If you are found in violation of the ban, you could be considered liable for all firefighting costs associated with you fire, and fined up to $5000.

What does this mean for industry? A fire ban means no industrial burning (burn piles). Continue to abide by your Industrial Wildfire Control Plan. Suspend all non-essential flaring.
