FIRE ADVISORY

The Fire Advisory for the Whitecourt Wildfire Management Area (WWMA) continues to be in effect. Dry conditions can cause extreme fire behaviour and allows fires to grow rapidly. Residents and visitors to the area are urged to be extra cautious with any burning at this time.

Safe campfires are permitted in campgrounds and backcountry or random camping areas. Issuance of fire permits for the area is restricted until the Fire Advisory is lifted.

PERMITS

Exposed, dry grasses and branches are impacting burning conditions. Under the current Fire Advisory, all permit holders must extinguish their fires.

WILDFIRE UPDATE (April 13, 2015, at 1400hrs)

Currently there is one fire in the WWMA. WWF-003 is under control, meaning no further spread of the fire is expected. It is located just over 20 kilometers West of the town of Fox Creek. Nine firefighters are extinguishing hotspots and will continue to work until the fire is extinguished.

Unless conditions change, expect your next update on April 14, 2015.
