Fire Advisory in Effect

As of April 8, 2016 a Fire Advisory has been declared in the Whitecourt Forest Area. Fire permits for heavy fuels (i.e. brushpiles, windrows and root piles) will not be issued until conditions improve.

New fire permits for burn barrels and yard debris will be issued depending on material to be burnt and site preparation. Please remember to check the weather before burning; it is not permitted to burn when the wind speed reaches or exceeds 15 kilometres per hour.

Safe campfires are still allowed.

Burning activities may become restricted in the coming days if conditions worsen. For more information on Fire Advisories, Restrictions or Bans across the province, visit  AlbertaFirebans.ca.

Fire Permits

A free fire permit is required for any burning (except campfires) within the Forest Protection Area. If you are in the Whitecourt Forest Area, and you want to do some burning call: 780-778-7272.

Wildfire Hazard

The wildfire hazard is MODERATE for the Whitecourt Forest Area. Temperatures are expected to remain around 15 degrees Celsius until the weekend when they will increase to 20 degrees Celsius. Currently, the wind speeds are at 15 kilometres per hour.

Areas of dry grass pose a higher wildfire hazard. Dry grass and branches can catch fire quickly - easily growing into a fast-moving wildire. Use caution when working or recreating in these areas.
