Wildfire Hazard Moderate in the Slave Lake Forest Area

Wildfire Situation for the Slave Lake Forest Area

There were no new wildfires in the Slave Lake Forest Area in the last 24 hours, Friday was the first day in two weeks that did not have a wildfire start. 

Firefighters and helicopters continue to fight the wildfire located east of Wood Buffalo Lake.  The wildfire did not spread again today there are 45 firefighters and four helicopters working to contain this wildfire and it is considered as being held.

Please do your part to prevent wildfires this weekend. Never leave your campfire unattended and make sure it's out. A campfire left smouldering can cause a wildfire.This video shows you how to make sure your campfire is out.

Weather Forecast

A week cold front in lying over the Slave Lake Forest Area Saturday and will remain in place for much of the day.  It will bring scattered showers and thunderstorm activity throughout the area Saturday.

Sunday will see a cold front move into the area with more thunderstorm activity anticipated on the eastern side of the Slave Lake Forest Area.  The temperatures will remain in the low teens.

Since April 1st there have been 171 wildfires in the Slave Lake Forest Area and the total area burned is just over 2214 hectares.

Your off-highway vehicle can start a wildfire. Check your off-highway vehicle frequently for any smoldering debris. Grass, muskeg, moss or other debris can drop to the ground as you're riding and spark a wildfire.This video shows you how to ride debris free! 
  
Fire Permits - Fire permits are required for any type of burning in the Forest Protection Area. Campfires do not require a fire permit.

Fire permits are free and can be obtained by calling your local Alberta Agriculture and Forestry office.
