Wildfire Hazard
Due to very small amounts of rain and warm temperatures, the wildfire hazard remains HIGH for areas around Red Earth Creek, Peerless Lake and north of Chipewyan Lakes. Use caution in these areas as conditions are dry and with the forecasted winds a wildfire will move very quickly. To report a wildfire call 310-FIRE immediately.
The wildfire hazard is LOW for areas around and south of Lesser Slave Lake.
Weather Forecast
The forecast is calling for cool temperatures, a chance of rain and strong gusty winds.Use caution in areas of HIGH hazard as winds will be gusting up to 40 kilometres per hour from the east/southeast.
Wildfire Situation for the Slave Lake Forest Area
There were no new wildfires today. Firefighters continue to fight wildfires which were sparked by lightning on Monday night. Seven have been extinguished, one is under control and one remains being held.
SWF079 This wildfire is located approximately 47 kilometres northwest of Peerless lake and remains being held. Being held means under current weather conditions and with the firefighting efforts applied the wildfire is not expected to grow.There are 44 firefighters, three helicopters and various pieces of heavy equipment working to contain this wildfire. This wildfire has burned just over 34 hectares.
SWF082 The wildfire located approximately 28 kilometres northeast of Wabasca is under control as of this morning. There are 32 firefighters, 3 helicopters and various pieces of heavy equipment working to extinguish this wildfire.The accurately measured size of the wildfire is 75 hectares.
Otter Lakes Wildfire The Otter Lakes wildfire located 36 kilometers northwest of Red Earth Creek is 100 per cent contained. An infrared scan was completed on the wildfire and no hotspots were detected. The wildfire started on April 30th and has burned just over 1939 hectares.
Since April 1st there have been 82 wildfires in the Slave Lake Forest Area and the total area burned is just over 2130 hectares.

Fire Ban and Off-Highway Vehicle Restriction
Wet and cool weather across parts of Alberta has reduced the wildfire hazard and adjustments have been made to the boundaries of the fire ban and off-highway vehicle (OHV) restriction. For a map and information about the fire ban which remains in place click here.
Fire Permits - Fire permits are required for any type of burning in the Forest Protection Area. Campfires do not require a fire permit.
Fire permits are free and can be obtained by calling your local Alberta Agriculture and Forestry office.
