Wildfire Hazard

With rain in the forecast the wildfire hazard will be LOW for areas north of Lesser Slave Lake. Areas around and south of Lesser Slave Lake are at MODERATE. Click here to view the wildfire hazard map.

Wildfire situation in the Slave Lake Forest Area

Over the past few days firefighters have been busy fighting several new wildfires, the majority of which were sparked by recent lightning storms that passed through the area. Seven of the wildfires have been extinguished and two are under control.

SWF 179 (Slave Lake Wildfire number 179) located south of Blanchet Lake is under control and firefighters are working to extinguish this 8 hectare wildfire.

SWF 181 (Slave Lake Wildfire number 181) is located south of highway 686 on the way to Peerless Lake. The wildfire is under control and was accurately measured to be 3.4 hectares. 

Since April 1st there have been 185 wildfires in the Slave Lake Forest Area and the total area burned is just over 2251 hectares.

Fire permits are free and can be obtained by calling your local Alberta Agriculture and Forestry office.

Campfires do not require a fire permit.
