Weather forecast:

The temperatures tomorrow are expected to be around 20 degrees Celsius in the Slave Lake Forest Area with winds from the east/south east at around 20 kilometers. Tomorrow there is the potential to see 20-40 millimeters of rain in the Slave Lake Forest Area.

Wildfire Situation for the Slave Lake Forest Area

There were two new wildfire starts today in the Slave Lake Forest Area:

SWF081 - considered to be under control at 0.01 hectares.
SWF082 - out of control and is estimated at 50 hectares. There are firefighting crews, air tankers, helicopters and heavy equipment currently working on this fire.

The other wildfires in our area are:

SWF075 - considered to be under control at 0.1 hectares.
SWF076 - being held at 2.0 hectares and has one helicopter and firefighting crew working to extinguish this wildfire.
SWF079 - considered out of control and is estimated at 96 hectares. There are three crews actioning this wildfire along with helicopters and large equipment.
SWF080 - considered as under control and is estimated at 0.01 hectares, there is one crew and helicopter working to extinguish this fire.
Otter Lakes Wildfire: The Otter Lakes wildfire located approximately 36 kilometers northwest of Red Earth Creek is 100 per cent contained. Firefighters continue to patrol this wildfire from the air. The wildfire started on April 30th and has burned just over 1939 hectares.

Since April 1st there have been 82 wildfires in the Slave Lake Forest Area and the total area burned is just over 2110 hectares.

The dry conditions can cause fires to rapidly spread, please postpone any burning. Report wildfires immediately by calling 310-FIRE.

Fire Ban - Off-Highway Vehicle Restriction: Wet and cool weather across parts of Alberta has reduced the wildfire hazard and adjustments have been made to the boundaries of the fire ban and off-highway vehicle (OHV) restriction. Fire Permits - Fire permits are required for any type of burning in the Forest Protection Area. Campfires do not require a fire permit.

Fire permits are free and can be obtained by calling your local Alberta Agriculture and Forestry office.
