Wildfire Hazard for the Slave Lake Forest Area

A thunderstorm rolled through the Slave Lake Forest Area and there were seven new wildfire starts.

• SWF074 - Is considered as being held and is estimated at 0.3 hectares.
• SWF075 - Is considered as being held and is estimated at 0.1 hectares.
• SWF076 - Is considered out of control and is estimated at 2 hectares.
• SWF077 - Is considered as being held and is estimated at .3 hectares.
• SWF078 - Is considered out of control and is estimated at 0.01 hectares.
• SWF079 - Is considered out of control and is estimated at 40 hectares.
• SWF080 - Is considered as being held and is estimated at 0.01 hectares.

The dry conditions can cause fires to rapidly spread, please postpone any burning. Report wildfires immediately by calling 310-FIRE.

Otter Lakes Wildfire

The Otter Lakes wildfire located approximately 36 kilometers northwest of Red Earth Creek is 100 per cent contained. Firefighters continue to patrol this wildfire from the air.The wildfire started on April 30th and has burned just over 1939 hectares. 

Since April 1st there have been 80 wildfires in the Slave Lake Forest Area and the total area burned is just over 2060 hectares.

The temperatures tomorrow will be between 22-26 degrees celcius in the Slave Lake Forest Area winds from the north west at around 15 kilometers per hour with potential gusting wind and thunderstorm this afternoon.

Campfires

Never leave your campfire unattended.  Whether you are going to bed or going for a short hike, your campfire must be fully extinguised to prevent wildfires.

Your off-highway vehicle can start a wildfire. Check your off-highway vehicle frequently for any smouldering debris. Grass, muskeg, moss or other debris can drop to the ground as you're riding and spark a wildfire.This video shows you how to ride debris free! 

Fire Permits - Fire permits are required for any type of burning in the Forest Protection Area. Campfires do not require a fire permit.

Fire permits are free and can be obtained by calling your local Alberta Agriculture and Forestry office.
