Update on wildfire burning on north end of North Wabasca Lake as of 530pm May 24

As of 5:30 pm the wildfire has challenged the fire guard is growing. Firefighters and aircraft are continuing to fight the wildfire. It is 275 hectares in size. For evacuation information call Bigstone 780-891-0518 or MD of Opportunity 780-891-8719.

MD of Opportunity is asking that MD residents go to the Lakeview Sports Centre and residents of Bigstone Cree Nation 166C to go to Oski Pasikoniwew Kamik School. 

 

Wildfire 22 kilometers SE of Slave Lake

Firefighters, aircraft and heavy equipment are working on a wildfire located 22 kilometers SE of Slave Lake. The wildfire is 20 hectares. 

Wildfire Hazard

Warm and dry weather is expected to continue over the weekend. The wildfire hazard remains EXTREME for the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area

The conditions in the forest are very dry and under windy conditions a fire will spread very quickly. Use extreme caution and report wildfires immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473).

Weather Forecast

For the weekend, the forecast is calling for very warm temperatures in high twenties and light winds with a chance of isolated thundershowers for Red Earth Creek on Saturday.
