Wildfire Hazard Remains HIGH. Strong and Gusty Winds Expected To Continue.

Wildfire Hazard

The wildfire hazard in the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area is HIGH. Strong and gusty winds are expected to continue into tonight and Thursday. There is a chance of rain Thursday however, until there is rain on the ground the hazard will remain HIGH. Areas of dead grass are flammable and fire will spread very quickly under windy conditions. Residents and visitors are urged to be extra cautious with any burning at this time.

 

Wildfire Report as of April 15 4:00 pm

There have been no new wildfires today.

Since April 1, the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area has recorded eight wildfires which have burned 47.85 hectares. Seven of the wildfires have been extinguished and one is under control.

Fire Permits

The fire permit suspension has been lifted and new fire permits are being issued. However permits will not be issued for large brush piles or large areas of dead grass. All permit holders must follow the permit conditions. To request your fire permit call your local Environment and Sustainable Resource Development Office 310-ESRD (3773).

Unless conditions change, your next wildfire update will be April 16, 2015.
