Wildfire Hazard remains HIGH. Brisk winds expected for Thursday

The wildfire hazard for the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area remains HIGH for Thursday April 30th. 

Areas of dead, dry grass are extremely flammable and under windy conditions a fire will spread very quickly. Residents and visitors are urged to be extra cautious and postpone any burning until the winds are calm. Report wildfires immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473).

 

Weather Forecast

Rain was not recorded in the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area.

For Thursday the forecast is calling for temperatures in the mid teens and brisk W-SW winds 20 kilometers per hour gusting 40.

Firefighters with helicopters, heavy equipment and an airtanker group are stationed throughout the area ready to fight any new wildfires that may start. We also have our personnel in the fire towers on high alert constantly watching for smoke. 

 

Wildfire Report as of April 29 4:00 pm

There was one new wildfire Tuesday night.The small grass fire was quickly extinguished and burned 0.01 hectares.

The grass fire which started Tuesday morning near the community of Driftpile has been extinguished and was remeasured at 164 hectares.

Since April 1, the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area has recorded 31 wildfires which have burned 258.05 hectares. All 31 wildfires have been extinguished.

Fire Permits

All fire permit holders are reminded to check the weather and your permit conditions.  If you cannot meet the conditions on your permit, do not ignite new burns and extinguish those already burning.

From March 1 to October 31, Albertans in the forested areas need to get a FIRE PERMIT for any burning, excluding campfires. To request your free fire permit call your local Environment and Sustainable Resource Development Office.
