The wildfire hazard for the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area remains HIGH for Friday May 1st.
Areas of dead, dry grass are extremely flammable and under windy conditions a fire will spread very quickly. Residents and visitors are urged to be extra cautious and postpone any burning until the winds are calm. Report wildfires immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473).
Weather Forecast
Rain has not been recorded in the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area.
For Friday the forecast is calling for temperatures in the low teens and lighter winds from the west 20 kilometers per hour.
Firefighters with helicopters, heavy equipment and an airtanker group are stationed throughout the area ready to fight any new wildfires that may start. We also have our personnel in the fire towers on high alert constantly watching for smoke.
Wildfire Report as of April 30 4:00 pm
There were three new wildfires today. Two have been extinguished and one is under control. The fires burned 3.5 hectares.
Since April 1, the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area has recorded 34 wildfires which have burned 261.64 hectares. 33 wildfires have been extinguished and one is under control.
Fire Permits
All fire permit holders are reminded to check the weather and your permit conditions. If you cannot meet the conditions on your permit, do not ignite new burns and extinguish those already burning.
From March 1 to October 31, Albertans in the forested areas need to get a FIRE PERMIT for any burning, excluding campfires. To request your free fire permit call your local Environment and Sustainable Resource Development Office.
