Wildfire Hazard
Warm and dry weather is expected to continue over the weekend. The wildfire hazard remains EXTREME for the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area.
The conditions in the forest are very dry and under windy conditions a fire will spread very quickly. Use extreme caution and report wildfires immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473).
Weather Forecast
For the weekend, the forecast is calling for very warm temperatures in high twenties and light winds with a chance of isolated thundershowers for Red Earth Creek on Saturday.
Wildfire Situation as of May 22 5:00pm
There were three new wildfire this afternoon. Firefighters in helicopters and airtankers were able to quickly contain them. Two have been extinguished and one is under control. The wildfires burned just over two hectares.
Since April 1st, there have been 63 wildfires in the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area and just over 582 hectares burned.
Currently in the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area, 116 firefighters, 18 helicopters, eight heavy equipment groups, two airtanker groups have been stationed strategically throughout the area and are ready to battle any new wildfires that may start. We also have firefighters in helicopters doing aerial patrols and all 20 of our lookout tower observers are continually watching for smoke.

The wildfire located approximately 125 kilometers north of Slave Lake is UNDER CONTROL at 256 hectares. Under control means the fire is 100 percent contained. Firefighters continue to work on extinguishing smoldering ground fires. Highway 88 is open. For the safety of our firefighters please reduce your speed when traveling through the area.
