Currently there is a wildfire burning near North Wabasca Lake.

Firefighters, aircraft and heavy equipment are making progress on slowing the spread under the current weather conditions.

Dozers have finished building fire guard on east and west sides of the wildfire and will have the whole fire guarded very soon. Dozer guard is completed around 65 per cent of the wildfire. Helicopters with buckets and airtankers continue to work on soaking the smoldering ground fires.

The wildfire is estimated to be 50 hectares in size. Road is closed at the three way stop going north on Lakeview. Residents have been safely evacuated.

Wildfire Hazard

Warm and dry weather is expected to continue over the weekend. The wildfire hazard remains EXTREME for the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area

The conditions in the forest are very dry and under windy conditions a fire will spread very quickly. Use extreme caution and report wildfires immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473).

Weather Forecast

For the weekend, the forecast is calling for very warm temperatures in high twenties and light winds with a chance of isolated thundershowers for Red Earth Creek on Saturday.
