Tuesday's Wildfire Hazard
Cooler temperatures and scattered thundershowers forecasted for tonight and tomorrow will lessen the wildfire hazard in the Slave Lake Wildire Management Area.The overall wildfire hazard will be LOW - MODERATE however the hazard will remain HIGH for Driftpile, Faust, Kinuso, Fawcette Lake and areas south of Lesser Slave Lake. Until rain is on the ground the forests will remain dry and a fire will spread quickly under windy conditions. Use caution while out enjoying our forests and report wildfires immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473).
Weather Forecast
For Tuesday the forecast is calling for cooler temperatures, a chance of thundershowers and winds from the north at 20 kilometres per hour.
Rain is in the forecast for Thursday and Friday.
Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area wildfire situation as of 4:30 pm June 15th
There were no new wildfires over the weekend. Thanks to the hard work of firefighters, aircraft and heavy equipment two of the wildfires that started by lightning on June 11th are under control and one has been extinguished. Since April 1, in the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area there have been 106 wildfires and 1,199.73 hectares burned.
Alberta Wildfire Update as of 10:00 am June 16th
In the last 24 hours there have been five new wildfires. Alberta currently has 35 wildfires. One is out of control, six are being held, 26 are under control and two have been turned over to the responsible party. Since April 1, 2015, Alberta has recorded 886 wildfires that have burned a total of 92,143.66 hectares. As of 4:00 pm Thursday June 11th, the Fire Restriction for the east portion of the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area has been lifted.
A FIRE ADVISORY does remain in effect for the entire Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area.
We are constantly monitoring the weather, rainfall amounts and wildfire hazard and will adjust the fire advisory when conditions permit – significant rainfall is received. We appreciate your cooperation. Abiding by the fire advisory keeps our firefighters free to fight any new wildfires that may start.
Safe campfires are allowed in campgrounds, backyards, backcountry and random camping areas.
Fire permits remain suspended and no new fire permits will be issued. Exceptions are burn barrels, smokehouses, smudges and sweatlodges - these are allowed - a valid fire permit is required. Call your local Aberta Agriculture and Forestry Office to request a fire permit at 310-0000.
