BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE MOCK DISASTER SIMULATION
On Friday, April 29 2017 Alberta Agriculture and Forestry will join the Lesser Slave Regional Fire Services and other provincial emergency response agencies in conducting a mock disaster simulation. This means that a fictional scenario will be given to the emergency response personnel in the Lesser Slave area. They will be asked to go through the steps to respond to the disaster as they would in a real-life event.
These types of training events are essential to test systems and responders. It is the way we build and/or strengthen relationships between towns, Municipal Districts (MDs) and provincial and federal emergency responders. This training tests not only the responders but the equipment and communication systems they use.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE MOCK DISASTER SIMULATION
Thursday, April 27 - First email notification of the Mock Disaster Simulation.
Friday, April 28 - Three emails on this system:
1. The first email will be reporting of a wildfire event.
2. The second email reporting a FICTIONAL evacuation event.
3. The third email will be reporting the end of the Mock Disaster Simulation.
Saturday, April 29 - the Mock Disaster Simulation will continue without the use of this emergency notification tool.
WHY IS THE SLAVE LAKE FOREST AREA PARTICIPATING IN THIS?
This event is a result of the Province's priority to continuously improve our emergency response to wildfire and other emergency events. This particular initiative that was taken by the Lesser Slave Lake Search and RescueAssociation. In addition to them, the other agencies involved are the Town of Slave Lake, Municipal District of Lesser Slave River, RCMP, Emergency Management Services (EMS), Alberta Health Services (AHS), Red Cross and Alberta Agriculture and Forestry.
