Wildfire Hazard

Warm weather and winds have caused the wildfire hazard to climb to VERY HIGH for the Slave Lake Wildfire Management AreaConditions in the forest are extremely flammable and under windy conditions a fire will spread very quickly. Residents and visitors are urged to be extra cautious and postpone any burning until the winds are calm. Report wildfires immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473).

Weather Forecast

For Tuesday May 12th, the forecast is calling for very warm temperatures and winds from the SE 25 gusting up to 45 kilometers per hour

Wildfire Report as of May 11 5:00 pm

There were eight new wildfires over the weekend. The fires were quickly contained. Seven have been etinguished and one is under control. The total hectares burned was 4.22.

Since April 1, the Slave Lake Wildfire Managemet Area has recorded 45 wildfires which have burned 311.96 hectares. 44 have been extinguished and one is under control.

Fire Permits

All fire permit holders are reminded to check the weather and your permit conditions. If you cannot meet the conditions on your permit, do not ignite new burns and extinguish those already burning.

From March 1 to October 31, Albertans in the forested areas need to get a FIRE PERMIT for any burning, excluding campfires. To request your free fire permit call your local Environment and Sustainable Resource Development Office.
